“Can't find media” displays in Status column

Product

  • Print Console v1.x
  • TIFF Downloader
  • PCC (Professional Computer Corporation) TIFF-based workflow

Platform

Intel, Alpha

Operating system

Windows NT 4.0

Symptoms

“Can't find media” displays in Status column and PCC TIFF files fail when output to proof in Print Console.

The following occurs:

  • A job coming from the PCC workflow, when tried to be imaged on a proof, is moved to the Processed Queue
  • The job status is “unsuccessfully completed”
  • “Can't find media” message displays in the Status column beside the failed separation

These occur even though the output media and print setup configurations in Print Console seem to be correct.

Cause

Print Console likely could not determine the intended color of the separation files because all of the following are true:

  • Image Description tag not in the TIFF file header or contains something other than the color.
  • The separation file names did not include “.C”, “.M”, “.Y”, or “.K”
  • The print setup being used has the “Ignore RIP color names when matching” check box selected.
This option can be found in the Configuration menu, in Print Setup, on the Separations tab.

Solution

To fix this issue permanently, the workflow software has to generate a file that contains the Image Description tag in the TIFF file header. Without this, you have to configure your workflow to automatically add the color extension to the TIFF filename (for example, Plate.C.tif).

To work around this issue temporarily, do one of the following:

A. Rename the separation filenames to include “.C”, “.M”, “.Y”, or “.K”, then re-submit the files to Print Console.

B. Tell Print Console to use the colors as defined in the Separation Setup.

To enable this function:

  1. Resubmit your files and group them.
  2. Right-click on the job and select Properties.
  3. In the Job Properties dialog box, click on the Separations tab.
  4. Select a separation from the Data Sources window.
  5. Click Add.
  6. From the RIP Color column, select the separation's RIP color. For example, if you've selected the black separation in the Data Sources window, select Black in the RIP Color column and ensure Black is selected in the Device Color column. For more information about color mappings, refer to the Print Console User Guide.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Repeat this step for each data source for the job.
  9. Approve the job by right-clicking it and selecting Approve.
