“Creo Diagnostic Tool“ Prints on Media Despite Having a Valid License Key for TIFF Downloader

  checkbox.gif (459 bytes)  Tested   uncheckbox.gif (229 bytes)  Not Tested

Applies to

This problem has been detected on systems that have done a full install of Print Console 1.0.4 (the current Production version of Print Console on CD), and then run the Prinergy Wizard on the Render Station.

It could also apply to systems that may or may not be running Prinergy, but have installed the Print Console 1.0.4 patch files (downloaded from the Technical Library) without making the necessary changes to the Print Console begin.inf file as outlined in the upgrading document.

Problem

Despite having entered a valid License Key for TIFF Downloader, “Creo Diagnostic Tool” is printed on the image.

Background

Print Console 1.0.4 (the current shipping version of Print Console 1.0) uses the tiffdownloader.exe that was created for Print Console 2.0. This tiffdownloader.exe looks for the TIFF Downloader License Key in the registry structure of Print Console 2.0, which is different from the registry structure of Print Console 1.x.

Normally this does not cause a problem on a full install of Print Console 1.0.4 because the install script adds the following line to in the begin.inf:

"tiffdownloader /regver1.0" /unique /newconsole /min /exit 0

The “/regver1.0” comment tells TIFF Downloader to look for the license key in the registry structure of Print Console 1.x.

However, when you run the Prinergy Wizard on the render station after a clean install of Print Console, the wizard creates it's own BeginCWR.inf file, and is unaware of the new /regver1.0 comment.

As a result, the comment does not get written into the file, which means TIFF Downloader can't locate the License Key, assumes the system is not registered, and prints “Creo Diagnostic Tool” on the media.

This can also happen if you download and install the Print Console 1.0.4 patch files without manually adding the above comment to the begin.inf file, as instructed by the install and the upgrading instructions document. This comment is only added to the begin.inf automatically on a full install.

Workaround

In BeginCWR.inf file in the PrintConsole/bin directory on the render station, replace the line:

"tiffdownloader /ib15" /unique /newconsole /min /exit 0

with the following line:

"tiffdownloader /regver1.0 /ib15" /unique /newconsole /min /exit 0

Note: as a precaution, make sure the begin.inf also contains the /regver1.0 comment as shown above.

Permanent Fix

A permanent fix is under investigation.
