Online Help Doesn't Work if Internet Explorer or MS Virtual Machine Not Loaded

Product

Print Console 2.x

Platform

Intel

Operating system

Windows 2000

Symptoms

Online Help does not display when you click the Online Help options in Print Console 2.x. Or, if you do not have MS Virtual Machine on the system, Internet Explorer launches but does not display the Content, Index, or Search tabs in the left portion of the Explorer window. These tabs are used to navigate the Online Help system.

Cause

In Print Console 2.x, Internet Explorer displays the Print Console Online Help system. Without Internet Explorer, these files cannot display. Without MS Virtual Machine (a component of IE), the java applets that are needed for the Index, Content, or Search tabs do not work.

Solution

Install Internet Explorer and/or MS Virtual Machine depending on which application the system lacks. Note that a “typical” installation of Internet Explorer does not include MS Virtual Machine. MS Virtual Machine is installed by doing a “custom” installation of Internet Explorer and selecting the MS Virtual Machine option. Also, if the system is online, IE will automatically load MS Virtual Machine from the web.
