Submit File dialog box closes without adding files to the Pending Queue in Print Console

Product

  • Print Console v1.x
  • all devices

Platform

Alpha; Intel

Operating system

Windows NT 4.0

Symptoms

The following occur in a job where Print Console was supposed to pick media automatically:

  • The job is moved to the Processed Queue
  • The job status is "unsuccessfully completed"
  • An error message is displayed in the Status column beside the failed separation

These occur even though the output media and print setup configurations in Print Console seem to be correct.

Cause

Print Console could not find a suitable media size that the raster could fit onto because the media does not exist or the matching tolerance is too low.

Solution

To fix this issue, perform the following:
Configure all output media (step 1) and either increase matching tolerance (step 2) or force raster onto a specific media size (step 3):

  1. Ensure that Print Console has been configured with all the Output Media that you have available (for example, Kodak3230, Kodak3244, etc.):
    - In Print Console, click on the Configuration menu, then on Output Media.
    - Check that the output media you wish to use exists.
    - If the required output media size does not exist, create a new output media. For information on how to create a new output media, see the Print Console Reference Guide.

If the matching tolerance is too low, go to step 2.
If you want to force the raster onto a spcific media size, go to step 3.

  2. Increase the matching tolerance:
    - In Print Console, click on the Configuration menu.
    - Click on Workstation.
    - Click on the Defaults tab.
    - Increase the Matching Tolerance for the Along Drum and Around Drum values. For more information on configuring matching tolerance, see the Print Console Reference Guide.
    - Click OK, and then go to step 4.

  3. Force the raster onto a specific media size, rather than getting Print Console to pick the media size based on the raster size:
    - In Print Console, click on the Configuration menu.
    - Click on Print Setup.
    - In the Print Setup General tab, pick a specific output media to output to.
    - Click on New to create a print setup for one of the desired output media sizes. - Repeat for each output media size you use. For more information on working with Print Setups, refer to the Print Console Reference Guide.

  4. Resubmit the file
