“Failed in RIP” status for TIFF files in Print Console

Product

  • Print Console v1.x
  • all devices

Platform

Alpha; Intel

Operating system

Windows NT 4.0

Error

Failed in RIP

Symptoms

Print Console fails all TIFF files to which the print setup is applied, displaying "Failed in RIP" in the status column. This occurs when the Transform option (found in the Configure Print Setup dialog box, on the TIFF Downloader tab) is selected.

Cause

TIFF Downloader may not be able to transform files which do not meet the following standards:

  • must be monochrome, 1-bit files
  • can contain stripes and tiles
  • can utilize any compression type, except LZW

Solution

  To work around this issue:

Either submit TIFF files that meet the standards above, or turn off the Transform option.

To turn off the Transform option:

  1. From the Configuration menu, select Print Setups.
  2. In the Configure Print Setups dialog box, select the TIFF Downloader tab.
  3. Clear the Transform check box.
  4. Click OK or Apply to save.
  5. Re-write the TIFF files so that they no longer need to be transformed to get a useful output on the device. Refer to the User Documentation for your RIP.
  6. Re-submit the changed files.

Note: Transforming TIFF files results in degraded performance speed.
