Proofing Media not Configured in Device after Firmware Upgrade

Product

  • Print Console v2.0 (build 2.0.1.24 and later)
  • Trendsetter Spectrums and Proofsetters

Platform

Intel

Operating system

Windows NT SP4 & Windows 2000

Error

Job cannot be approved because device proof format "30x40_Proof"* is not configured in the device

*error not specific to a particular proof type.

Symptoms

When you try to submit a proofing job after upgrading the firmware to v1.40, Print Console un-approves the job and displays the above error message.

Also, you may not be able to delete spot colors from Print Console's Device Media pane, and these spot colors may not have the Configured in Device check box selected.

Cause

Although this problem has two different causes, both stem from upgrading the firmware to v1.40 or above:

  • The firmware upgrade did not remove obsolete spot colors from the Print Console GUI.
  • The HDM parameters do not match the Media parameters in the firmware (media names do not match)

Solution

Perform the following to determine which problem you're having:

  1. Go to the Device Media pane in Print Console's Configuration screen.
  2. Click on all the spot colors.
    • If any spot color does not have a check mark in the Configured in device check box, try to delete it using the Delete button. If the Delete button is disabled, go to solution A.
    • If a check mark appears in the Configured in device check box for each color, go to solution B.
Solution A

Edit the Print Console registry to remove the obsolete spot colors:

  1. Shut down Print Console and run the registry editor:
    • From the Start menu, select Run.
    • Type "regedit"
  2. Within the DeviceMedium key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Creo/Print Console/V2.0/DeviceMedium), delete obsolete spot color directories.
  3. Restart Print Console.
Solution B

In the firmware, make sure the name and color fields match in the HDM parameters and the Media parameters:

  1. Shut down Print Console.
  2. In the firmware, check under the set media # and the set hdm #.
  3. Make sure both the name and color fields are setup properly. Compare both character-by-character. Watch for case-sensitivity.
  4. Once all fields are corrected, re-start Print Console.
