Prinergy TIFF Files Not Showing Up in Print Console When Another Job is Outputting

Product

  • Print Console 2.0, 2.1
  • Prinergy 2.0

Platform

Intel

Operating system

Windows NT SP4, Windows 2000

Error

No error message.

Symptoms

Although Prinergy shows a file has been successfully generated, it never reaches the Print Console queue. The problem occurs only if the file is sent while Print Console is processing another image. You will not encounter this if you wait for each file to image before sending the next file.

Cause

Although it doesn't appear so in Prinergy, Prinergy sends files with duplicate file names to Print Console. Since Print Console keeps the active file in the Working folder while the device outputs it, when the new file gets put in the same folder, the active file is overwritten. That file is then moved to the Done folder, or deleted if the Done folder is not set up.

How do two different files end up with the same name when they are sent to Print Console?

Prinergy uses the following file naming convention:

Jobname.Impositionplanname.signature.colour.tif

The maximum number of characters to include in the job and imposition plan name can be defined under the device section of the process plan. Names that are longer than the maximum are truncated. If you output jobs named bigjob 1 and bigjob 2 at the same time when the maximum allowable length of the job name is set to 5 (default value), both tiff files will be named bigjo.imposition.sig.colour.tif and the second one never shows up in the Print Console pending queue.

Solution

In Prinergy, either increase the maximum allowable length for job names or create job names that have unique initial characters.
