Print Console Displays Persistent Error Message That SCSI Link is Broken When the Link is Actually Available

Product

  • Print Console 2.1.1.24
  • Any workflow using a SCSI connection
  • Any MPE output device

Platform

Intel

Operating system

Windows 2000, AIX

Error

The SCSI link is currently unavailable. Please check that the SCSI cable is plugged in and the device is turned on.

Symptoms

Every minute Print Console displays and logs an error that the SCSI link is broken or currently unavailable when in fact there is no problem with the configuration.

Cause

In Print Console 2.1.x and later, there is a polling function that looks for the SCSI connection to Print Console and reports it in the Messages window.

Normally this is not a problem, but it can be misleading in a Direct workflow where the SCSI link is connected directly to the Brisque or Prinergy workflow. In this case, Print Console is persistently giving an error when there is nothing wrong.

Solution

The solution is to turn off the polling function. (This does not stop the reporting of legitimate SCSI errors.)

  1. From the Windows desktop, select Start > Run and type regedit.
  2. Navigate to the following folder path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Creo\PrintConsole\V2.0\ScsiConfig\
  3. Open the registry file PollInterval by double-clicking on the PollInterval file in the right-hand pane.
  4. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, type 0 (zero) in the Value Data: box.
Note: Changes to these values will take effect while Print Console is running.
  5. Click OK and exit Regedit.
