Symptoms |
MCE devices occasionally have problems with an artifact that presents itself as a region of the image that is shifted in the mainscan direction. There are usually two pieces of this artifact: a thick piece (1 - 15 mm or wider) on the home side of the affected region and a thin piece (a few scanlines wide) on the away side of the region and shifted by a different amount. The effect is scanline based and not related to swaths. Plates with this artifact have made it to press, as the artifact can be difficult to notice. | ||

Cause |
This artifact is seen only on MCE devices that use the Adaptec 39160 UltraWide Low voltage differential SCSI card and is thought to be related to use of that card. |

Solution |
Print Console 3.9 introduced Cyclic Redundancy Checking (CRC) as a way to alert the operator to this problem. Print Console uses the CRC values to detect whether image data has changed between the source and the device. If the CRC values are not identical, Print Console suspends the device and prompts the operator to check for artifacts on the plate. CRC is turned on by default. To disable (or re-enable) CRC, users must set this registry item: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Creo\PrintConsole\V2.0\ScsiConfig\PerformCRC16Check This is a DWORD value and should be set to one of the following:
