SCSI error: "The SCSI port is not available"

Symptoms

  
  • Error message The SCSI port is not available
  • No media size is reported in the process plan

Cause

   Workflow software will not pick up the correct GDAPI DLL if the Print Console 4.3 installation has not set up the path variable correctly. The workflow loads PrintConsoleGDAPI.dll from the 3.x version instead of the 4.x version. This causes a SCSI error because the 3.x DLL tries to open a SCSI port on a GMCE system, which has no SCSI port.

This will be fixed in version 4.5.

Solution

  

Ensure that the path variable is correct after a Print Console 4.3 installation:

  1. From the Windows Start menu, select Run.
  2. In the Run dialog box, type cmd and press OK. This opens a command window.
  3. Type path. This displays the path variable.
  4. Check for the Print Console 4 bin path at the beginning of the path list: <drive>\Creo\PrintConsole4\bin


    5. If the path is there, the workflow is using the correct path and you do not need to continue with this procedure. If the Print Console path is not there, manually add it to the Environment variable:

  5. Right-click the My Computer desktop icon.
  6. Select Properties. A System Properties dialog appears.
  7. Select the Advanced tab and click Environment Variables.
  8. In the System Variables window, scroll to find the Path variable.
  9. Select the Path variable and click Edit. The path variable appears in a dialog.
  10. Place the cursor at the beginning of the variable value text box and type the full path to the Print Console 4 bin folder: <drive>\Creo\PrintConsole4\bin
  11. Click OK to dismiss all dialog boxes.
  12. Repeat steps 1-4 to confirm that the procedure was successful.
