Print Console 4.8 crashes during launch

Product

  Print Console, version 4.8

Machines affected

GMCE devices using Print Console 4.8

Symptoms

While launching Print Console 4.8, the startup process progresses normally until it starts initializing media data. Print Console then crashes.

Cause

It appears that the LoadTimeStamp does not work properly if the workstation is set up with a non-English locale.

Solution

You have two options:

  • Install Print Console 4.16.0.22 or later (available in Trendsetter CR 3.1).
  • Perform the workaround below.

Workaround for Print Console versions earlier than 4.8.1:

  1. Navigate to \Creo\PrintConsole4\data.
  2. Open Fireball.Media.1.xml and delete all sections starting with <PlateSourceConfiguration> and ending with </PlateSourceConfiguration>.
  3. Save the file.
  4. Restart Print Console.

Workaround for Print Console 4.8.1 or later:

  1. Navigate to \Creo\PrintConsole4\data.
  2. Open Fireball.Media.1.xml and delete all sections starting with <PlateSourceConfiguration> and ending with </PlateSourceConfiguration>.
  3. Save the file.
  4. From the Windows Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options.
  5. On the Regional Options tab, click Customize.
  6. Select the Date tab. In the Short date area, select / for Date separator and one of these formats for Short date format: MM/dd/yyyy or MM/dd/yy.

If one of these short date formats is not available for your locale, on the Regional Options tab, in the Standards and formats area, select English (United States).
  7. Restart Print Console.
