Operating system |
Microsoft® Windows® Server 2003 | ||
Machines affected |
Any device running the operating system listed above |
||
Symptoms |
After copying a hosts file from a Windows 2000 server to a Windows 2003 server, the hosts file cannot be accessed. |
||
Cause |
Copying the hosts file from another workstation. Although this may have worked in earlier versions of Windows, it does not work for Windows 2003. The Users and Power Users will be missing from the file permissions. |
||
Solution |
Use Microsoft® Notepad to create a new hosts file. Save it as a .txt file and rename it without the extension. |
