Error

27022 (MCE) / 43022 (MCE / Lotem Control Software): Unable to communicate with the chemical filter

Symptoms

Causes/Solutions

Cause 1:  The machine was not rebooted after a chemical filter change.
Solution:  After the chemical filter is changed, the output device must be rebooted (turned off, then on). Do not simply reset the software.

Cause 2:  The data cable is disconnected from either the output device or the debris cabinet.
Solution:  Check the data cable and reconnect if necessary. Reboot the output device (turn it off, then on) to continue.

Cause 3:  The chemical filter has been installed incorrectly.
Solution:  Check that the chemical filter has been installed with the rubber gasket down, so that it contacts the bottom of the canister. Correct installation of the chemical filter is as follows:

  1. Place the metal cylindrical guide in the bottom of the canister.
  2. Center the chemical filter on the guide, with the rubber gasket down. Try rotating the chemical filter 90 degrees to establish new contact points with the chemical filter I-button.
  3. Place the spacer on top of the chemical filter, and the particulate filter on top of the spacer. It should sit square to the canister with the foam gasket extending about ¼" above the rim.
  4. Reboot the output device (turn it off, then on) to continue.

Cause 4:  The data cable to the UDRC-L electrical enclosure is disconnected.
Solution:  Unplug and reseat the cable connections on the Lionel board in the UDRC-L electronics enclosure. Reboot the output device (turn it off, then on) to continue.

Cause 5:  On a Trendsetter device that uses MPE firmware, there may be an intermittent connection in the white wire of cable 10-4567/10-3770 close to the TEE board. This wire had a resistor removed when the output device was upgraded to the L-configuration.
Solution:  Inspect the connection and correct as necessary. See Trendsetter 400/800 Processless Plate Imaging System, UDRC-LC Installation/Upgrade Procedure for photos and further details.

Cause 6:  The internal cable between the L-configuration electrical enclosure and the contacts for the chemical filter is faulty.
Solution:

  1. Test for continuity between
    • the pin in the center of the chemical filter contact block and pin #17 on the female DB25 on the back of the cabinet
    • the pin at the outside of the chemical filter contact block and pin #4 on the female DB25 on the back of the cabinet
  2. If there is no continuity, remove the screen and contact block in the bottom of the canister by removing the 3 M5 screws, vacuum line and disconnecting the cables to the contact block.
  3. Test the contact block for continuity and replace any component needed.
In the unlikely event that that there is a problem with the internal cable that runs between the canister and DB25 on the back of the cabinet,

  1. Inspect the connector at the canister end closely, and replace it if needed. This is the most likely problem with this cable.
  2. Flip the UDRC cabinet over and remove the internal electrical enclosure where the main power goes in. One end of the cable terminates at the board. Unplug the cable and test it again for continuity.
  3. If you still have a problem with the cable it must be replaced (10-4940). To do this, you must completely disassemble the UDRC. This should take less than 2 hours. You will need some silicone to seal the bellmouth to the canister.
  4. Reboot the output device to continue.
