LC-BP Cable Errors

Applies to

  • Kodak Platesetter 3244 and VLF
  • Trendsetter 400 and 800
  • Trendsetter VLF

Note: This only applies to devices equipped with a glass encoder.

Symptom

  • Error 17674: HEAD: focus error, check LC-BP cable
  • Error 17696: HEAD: Stroke Clock or Imaging signal fault, check LC-BP cable

Cause

The LC-BP 9-pin ribbon cable runs from the backplane to the head. This cable does not have a detect loop back that checks for cable continuity, so instead the NEWLINE signal is used.

If the NEWLINE signal is not detected during a plot, one or both of these errors are generated.

The NEWLINE signal is generated from the index pulse on the encoder. If the device is imaging at a very low speed or if the index pulse is not detected due to a dirty encoder, the signal will not arrive as expected.

Solution

  1. If the error(s) is generated during a plot, clean the encoder disk.
  2. If this does not solve the problem, replace the LC-BP cable.
