Shutter sticks open, sticks closed, or does not operate smoothly

Product

Thermal 1.0/1.7 Heads

Component

Shutter

Symptoms

  • Shutter sticks open, sticks closed, or does not operate smoothly.
  • Edge detection problems and/or imaging artifacts.

Cause

There is a possibility that many shutters on the 1.x Thermal Head series have been manufactured so the shutter itself extends out past the focus block/airjet block. This will cause the shutter to potentially stick open, stick closed, or not operate smoothly.

Current production stock and heads have been corrected at the factory. However, the number of faulty heads that made it to the field has not been accurately determined.

Solution

  1. If Response Center staff suspect a shutter problem, instruct the field person going to the site to first check for this fault.
  2. To correctly install and align a shutter using a straightedge, use the procedure in the following document: Thermal 1/1.7 Shutter Sensor Replacement Procedure .
