TH2 Log File Viewing

Product

All thermal heads

Background

Looking in log files can be cumbersome. Finding the few lines that are of value can be like looking for a needle in a hay stack. To easily find specific details or to easily pull information from the log files, use Excel.

Procedure

To condense your log file into a readable format:

  1. Open the device log file and select all the text.
  2. Open an Excel file, and copy and paste the selected text into it.
  3. From the Excel menu, select Data > Text to Columns.

The Convert Text to Columns dialog box appears.

  4. In the Original data type list, select Delimited, then click Next.
  5. In the Delimiters list, select Space, then click Finish.
  6. Select all the text.
  7. From the Excel menu, select Data > Filter > AutoFilter.
  8. Locate the line you are interested in analyzing.
  9. For example, if you are interested in focus errors, you would search for line 01313. Then make a note of the column where line 01313 is located.

  10. Go to the above column and select the line number from the column drop-down list.
  11. Excel filters the log file for the specified line.

Here is an example of a log file that is condensed to show focus errors and when they occurred. You can graph the location of the focus errors.
