Irregular artifact lines in the mainscan direction

Product

  • Kodak® Trendsetter® 400/800
  • Trendsetter Autoloader
  • Trendsetter ContinuousLoad
  • Trendsetter NEWS™
  • Kodak ThermoFlex®

Component

Carriage ball nut setscrews

Symptoms

  • Irregular lines in the mainscan direction. Frequency and thickness is inconsistent.
  • Carriage ball nut setscrews are loose.

In this example, the calibration strips were set to be 15 mm in the subscan direction, but they vary from 14-17 mm.

This example shows a ThermoFlex platesetter ball nut. All three setscrews are loose (only two are visible in this photo).

This example shows a Trendsetter platesetter ball nut setscrew.

Cause

The ball nut setscrews were not properly tightened and over time work loose. As a result the ball nut comes away from the flex tube on the carriage.

Solution

  1. Apply Loctite® 242 to the ball nut setscrew(s).
  2. Tighten the setscrew until it touches the flex tube, then tighten one quarter turn.
For ThermoFlex devices, do the same for the other two setscrews. Note: Do not overtighten the setscrew(s).
