Thermal 2.7 laser diode is over-temperature

Product

  Thermal 2.7 imaging head

Component

External filter on the back of the chiller unit

Symptoms

Thermal head is overheating when the write laser is on. This leads to a failure as reported below.

f 09Aug05 07:53:16.584: < MCE > *** Unsolicited Message 44302 Fatal

f 09Aug05 07:53:16.615: < MCE > [CEH:Fatal Fault [02321] Laser Diode: The laser diode is over-temperature ( WLP fault )]

Cause

Thermal 2.7 heads require extra cooling compared to other TH2 heads.

  1. The air filter in the front of the chiller may be blocked with dust, reducing the effectiveness of the chiller.
  2. The coolant flowing from the external chiller is filtered through a 5-micron filter located on the rear of the chiller. This filter must be replaced every 6 months as part of the preventative maintenance. Failure to replace the filter will limit coolant flow, which may cause overheating.

Solution

  1. Clean the chiller’s air filter.
  2. Replace the coolant filter assembly. Order part number 500-01665A (the filter assembly), which is shipped complete with the quick disconnect hoses.
