Thermal3 Command
(requires ENG access)
foc sine <frequency> <amplitude> [<offset>]

Variables frequency Frequency of the sine wave in Hertz
amplitude Amplitude of the sine wave in microns
offset Offset of the sine wave in microns

Description This command puts the auto focus servo in a test state. This will cause the focus lens lens tube position to track a simulated sine wave of a specified amplitude and frequency. Sine wave tracking is typically done while calibrating the lens position sensor (lvdt sensor). Normally this is done automatically as part of the calibration function. This command is used to test the sine wave tracking portion of calibrations and in various other test scenarios.

If an auto focus initialization has not been previously successful the 'foc sine' command will fail. An auto focus initialization always occurs at system power up. There are several servo control states from which this command is disallowed. If this command is attempted in any of these states the error message "Unsafe to execute command in the current state" will be displayed.

The firmware also tests various other conditions before proceeding with this command. The Nose Piece Electronics (NPE) satellite must be present and functioning with full integrity. In addition, various sensor calibrations performed at system initialization must have completed successfully.
