| Service Information | Before the auto focus servo system can operate it must determine the mechanical and electrical integrity of its actuator hardware. The central method of checking the actuator hardware is through a 'focus initialization' operation. This occurs automatically at system power up and may be invoked manually with the 'foc init' command. | |
| Focus initialization moves the auto focus lens tube actuator through various expected degrees of freedom while using all possible means to reduce the risk of lens damage due to excessive acceleration caused by unexpected malfunctions. | ||
| Auto focus initialzation can fail for many reasons few of which are easlily recoverable but most of which are not. If initialization is not successful many subsequent auto focus monitor commmands may fail. | ||
