Ordering a Replacement Head

Use the following procedure when you have an unresolved imaging problem or error and you need to replace the head.

  1. Contact the RC to open a Technical Support Case and discuss the need for replacement.
  2. If a replacement is needed:
    1. Complete an EHR form. See Exposure head request (EHR) form.
    2. Attach any relevant log files and graphs to the case notes.
  3. Wait for head to arrive on site.
  4. Before opening the new head's static bag, check for other sources of the problem. For example:
    • cables
    • shutter and final lens debris
    • head mounting
    • media and processing line
    • power supplies

Note: A thermal head in a sealed static bag can be returned directly to service stock. Once opened, the head must be returned to Burnaby for examination and re-qualification. This is costly and should be avoided.

  5. Remove the old head from the device.
  6. Prior to shipping, complete any head-specific procedures:
  7. Return the failed head. Include:
    • a description of the problem
    • any graphs, related plots or log files
    • plate samples showing imaging artifacts (if applicable)
