Service Shell 2.4 not talking to diag. port

Product

  Service Shell 2.4, 2.4SP1

Operating system

  • Windows 2000

Symptoms

Service Shell not talking to diag. port

Cause

This happens after Print Console’s Study Guide and other Training files are installed and you run the Print Console Simulator. To learn Print Console concepts, the “UsePipes” mechanism is turned on so that Print Console will run in simulation or training mode. When you finish using the simulator, the “UsePipes” is left in the “on” state. This prevents Service Shell from modifying the Comm Ports.

Solution

You need to modify the affected Service Shell registry Key.

  1. Start Regedit
  2. Find the registry entry containing “UsePipes” in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Creo\ServiceShell
  3. Open UsePipes
  4. In Value Data field, enter 0
  5. In Base, leave as Hexadecimal
  6. Click OK
  7. Connect to the diagnostic port and continue
