Logs are not listed under Service Shell log viewer

Product

  Service Shell

Operating system

  • Windows 2000

Symptoms

  • The log viewer displays only the debug*.log log files from Print Console but the device logs are missing
  • The log viewer displays only the device*.log log files but the Print Console logs are missing
  • No logs are listed in the log viewer

Cause

The path and filename of the logs is missing, unavailable or the logs have been moved from their expected location(s).

Solution

Check the path and filename(s) of the log files:
  1. Go to System Drive\ServiceShell \Bin
  2. Locate the file LogViewSvr.ini
  3. Using a text editor, uncomment the correct path line(s) linking the log files you need to see in the Service Shell log Viewer; eg the uncommented lines should have this form:
    • InstallQlog1Path=d:\ServiceShell\logs to enable Service Shell Logs in the list
    • InstallQlog2Path=d:\PrintConsole\log to enable PrintConsole Logs in the list
  4. Save modified LogViewSvr.ini file
  5. Stop Service Shell Host on remote machine
  6. Stop Service Shell Client on your machine
  7. Start Service Shell Host on remote machine
  8. Start Service Shell Client on your machine
  9. Check that all logs you want are displayed in Log Viewer

If this doesn’t help then, check for the existence of the log files – they may have been manually deleted or moved. Service Shell 2.5 release resolves this problem.
