Cannot access UpFront via a VPN connection because the UpFront dongle is not detected

Product

Kodak® UpFront® 4.0.x software

Platform

Microsoft® Windows® operating system

Operating system

Microsoft Windows 2000, and Microsoft Windows 2003 operating systems

Symptoms

Cannot access Upfront software using a Remote Desktop connection (VPN) because the UpFront dongle cannot be found, even though the local desktop has an UpFront dongle.

Solution

To access the UpFront dongle via a Remote Desktop connection, the Sentinel Protection Server must run on the Windows computer.

To install the latest Sentinel Protection Installer v7.3 on your Windows computer:

  1. Go to the SafeNet Technical Support site at:
    http://www.safenet-inc.com/support/tech/sentinel.asp.
  2. Click Other Hardware Keys and download the Sentinel Protection Installer v7.3 installer.
  3. Follow the instructions to install the most updated server and driver.
  4. Make sure that the UDP Port 6001 is unused on your computer. To check if the port is unused:
    • Select Start > Command Prompt, and type
      netstat -a -p UDP
Alternatively, select Start > Run. Type cmd and then type netstat -a -p UDP
    • Make sure that 6001 does not appear in the active connections list.
