Prepare automatically thickens line weights under .25pt

Product

Prepare and Prepare Pro, all versions

Platform

Macintosh

Operating system

Mac OS 8.6, 9.1

Symptoms

Prepare automatically thickens very fine lines (under .25pt).

Cause

This is a feature.

Solution

Since most presses cannot handle lines thinner than .25pt, this is a way of ensuring the lines will show up for a printed job. You can override this feature if necessary, as follows:

  1. Edit prologue.ps (found in the Distiller Data folder) and insert the following PostScript code:
    mark
    {
    (Disabling Creo minimum linewidth control.) = flush
    /ControlMinLineWidth false CreoParamsPut
    } stopped
    {
    (ERROR: An error occured trying to disable Creo minimum linewidth control.) = flush
    } if
    cleartomark
  2. Modify job options in the Advanced tab: Enable execution of prologue.ps and epilogue.ps. This procedure gives you the best flexibility since you can have a job options file that has thinline control disabled (has prologue.ps and epilogue.ps execution enabled) and you can have another job options file with thinline control enabled (has prologue.ps and epilogue.ps disabled).
