Ripro Backup (Legato)

Legato Backup - After Crash Actions

Lev Weissman
November 7, 1999

The following must be performed on Server/Timna after any event that caused improper Legato shutdown when Legato was in the middle of a write operation.

This is necessary to detect/correct any index corruption afterwards (which is very likely in this scenario...)

For example:

  1. Legato is shut using nsr_shutdown while writing is in progress.
  2. System is rebooted for any reason while writing is in progress.

Actions to be performed:

  1. Detection
    #cd /nsr/logs
    #grep WISS daemon.log

Check if there were any WISS errors after the crash. If yes - you may have indexes corruption.

  1. Correction - run "nsrck -F"
You can use the "nsrck -F" command to control the location of the indexes temporary volumes.

Running "nsrck -T dir" overrides any environment variable.

ex: nsrck -F -T /dataVolumes/ripro1.2.0/legatotemp works just fine.
