Problem with indexes on Legato 4.2

L. Weissman
10/27/98

Problem:

We had an ongoing issue where the bootstrap and index would fail every evening after successful backup of their /dataVolumes.
The index would take a ridiculous amount of time (Example: 1:37:00 for 238MB) to save, and then the bootstrap would fail.

Running nsrck -F and nsrck -X showed no problems with file index and media index, both checked out O.K.

Solution:

  1. You will install patch patch_ibmrs6000_4.2-010.tar.Z for Legato 4.2 which deals with this particular problem.
    Take it from http://www.legato.com/cgi-bin/patchesn.pl?Unix/4.2
  2. nsrck -F will be run afterwards to verify and correct for problems.

For Sceduled Archive machines only:

  1. Delete file /backup/bin/nsrjb.orig
  2. Run scismit ->enable inventory

We estimate that this is the absolute minimum till we move the installed base to 5.X
