Ripro Backup (Legato)

PSN 34  - Move to a New/Backup Volume

T. Metzeler
April 16, 1999

More and more we face the problem that Legato indexes are becoming full.

This is due to the fact the customers desire different browsers and retention policies for their backup and/or scheduled archiving is extensivly used.

To release the sytem disk, an additional disk could be installed that will serve as a backup disk only (4 or 9 GB). In this case there is enough space for future growing indexes, and a system disk crash will not affect Legato indexes.

The disk must be obviously purchased, but the procedure to define this new disk as a volume for Legato and to move the existing indexes without losing data to the new location can be seen on Legdiskd.pdf.

Be carefull with all steps mentioned in the document!
