Hummingbird NFS

When installing Hummingbird (see Hummingbird Maestro NFS Installation and Configuration), ensure that you have the Full Install Client/Server CD, not the Evaluation CD. If you have installed an evaluation copy, un-install Hummingbird (see Uninstalling Hummingbird Maestro NFS Software) and re-install the appropriate software. Make sure that you install any patches after installing Windows 2000.

Why does a customer need to switch from Chameleon to Hummingbird?

NetManage does not support Chameleon NFS for NT 4.0 on Alpha. So customers using Chameleon who want to upgrade to NT 4.0 will need to migrate to Hummingbird. To uninstall Chameleon, see Uninstalling NetManage Chameleon NFS.

What is Creo’s upgrade policy for Hummingbird?

According to Creo service agreements, upgrades to minor revisions of software are included in software service packages (e.g. 1.5 to 1.6) while major software upgrades (e.g. 2.4 to 3.0) include significant additional features and are not automatically included. Upgrading to NT 4.0 is considered to be a major version upgrade and is not covered under Creo service agreements. Since the need to replace Chameleon with Hummingbird is a direct result of a third party vendor's business decision beyond Creo's control, Hummingbird is not included under Creo service agreements.

Customers with Chameleon NFS who are currently under warranty will be upgraded to Hummingbird NFS at no cost to them. The installation will be done at no additional cost provided this is done when our service personnel upgrade them to Windows NT4.0.

Customers with Chameleon NFS not under warranty, may purchase the product from Creo. The installation will be done at no additional cost provided this is done when our service personnel upgrade them to windows NT4.0.

Customers who want to add Hummingbird to their configuration may purchase the product from Creo and are subject to an installation charge.

What components make up the software?

Hummingbird has a Server and Client component. Hummingbird Server allows an NT system to share its drives as NFS network shares (in other words, it enables UNIX systems to see the NT system's drives) and performs authentication for NFS clients when connecting to older UNIX systems (such as Scitex) that do not perform authentication. Hummingbird Client allows an NT System to see and mount a NFS network share that has been created on a UNIX system.

What components are required at a customer site?

One copy of Hummingbird Server per network. Additional copies of Server will be required if more than one NT machine will be accessed from a UNIX system.

One copy of NFS Client per machine that will require access to a UNIX system. If only one NT machine out of three total NT machines needs to access a UNIX system then only one copy is needed.) Additional copies of NFS client will be required if more than one NT machine will be accessing a UNIX system.

So the minimum site requirement is one copy of Server and one copy of Client.
