Lanplex 2500 Version 7.01 S/W upgrade

Version 7.01 S/W is required to enable the Fast Ethernet Module to run in the Lanplex 2500 switching hub. The Powerbook 520 used in this upgrade contains all the necessary software to perform this task (please do not move any folders around on the Powerbook, as they are needed in specific locations).

Enclosed is a step by step procedure which should be followed to insure a proper S/W installation. Any questions regarding this installation procedure can be addressed to Bob Bradford, Ben Delmonaco or Amir Mushkat in the Bedford office.

Overview of installation:

The Powerbook 520 will act as an FTP server for downloading new S/W to the Lanplex 2500. In order to accomplish this task, a unique IP address (within your current networks range) must be set for both the Lanplex 2500 and the Powerbook. Obtain two IP addresses from the System Administrator to be used for this installation (if no IP protocol currently running over network, create your own address ex. 192.9.200.1 for Lanplex, 192.9.200.2 for Powerbook).

Installation consists of two parts, load of version 7.01 S/W and then load of new diagnostic version. (Install the Fast Ethernet Module after installation of new S/W)

Verify that the Lanplex 2500 is in proper running condition (only green LED’s illuminated, Run LED flashing green, no orange ERROR LED’s).

Assigning the Lanplex 2500 an IP address:

Under Apple menu, Control Panels, Network verify that the AppleTalk connection is via EtherTalk.(if not, select OK to change to EtherTalk)

The following message will be displayed:

Assigning the Powerbook an IP address:

Under the Apple menu, Control Panels , configure MacTCP. Set this to the second of the two IP addresses provided by the System Administrator, include Subnet Mask. (this will enable the Powerbook to Telnet into the Lanplex 2500 and perform the S/W upgrade). Close MacTCP control Panel.
