PTOP connection lost with
Linkswitch 1000
L. Weissman
August 28, 1996
Problem Description:
We recently installed a LinkSwitch 1000 hub - 24 port and upgraded from coax to 10bT. We have 8 macs, 1 PC, 2 PS2s and 4 Whispers on the hub now. Since the install, we keep dropping our Whisper LanC connections and must reboot 2 - 3 times before regaining the connex. The Iris will sometimes NOT come back on Lan untill 6 or more hours later when another operator tries to reboot. All Whispers are on Ver 7RL5 except the Iris which is on Ver 6.04 (due to needed FEP upgrade).
Solution:
The fix for this particular problem is to modify the "Aging Value" on the linkswitch hub to a value of 0.
To do this you must order or make a cable that interfaces between the hub and a computer. The computer must run a terminal emulation program such as Procomm (on PC) or Microphone (on MAC). Please reference your associated documentation that came with the hub for proper cabling pin-outs and settings for the terminal emulation program.
