Network
Infastructure - FDDI-Ripro Connection
The FDDI connecting topology should
be of the Single Attach type. A Ripro Server should be
connected to a switching hub in Single Attach mode (for
AppleTalk and TCP/IP protocols).
There are two possibilities for
connecting the FDDI physical backbone of the Ripro Server
to a Switching Hub.
- Where the Ripro Server is
located near a communication rack or room.
The network infrastructure subcontractor should
use the Mic to Mic 30 meter cable (#138F00028)
supplied with FDDI kit, in order to lay the FDDI
cable from the communication rack to the Ripro
Server.
Inside the communication rack the FDDI cable (MIC
type ) will be connected directly to the
switching hub.
- Where the Ripro Server is
located far from the communication rack or room
(over 20-25 meters away).
Use a fiber optic cable with ST type connectors
on both sides of the cable. At the user side the
fiber optic cable will be connected to a fiber
optic socket (ST type).
The subcontractor must also supply a fiber optic
cable for connecting the fiber optic socket to
the workstation ST to MIC type cable, and for
connecting the fiber optic patch panel to the
switching hub.
In this case do not use the FDDI cable supplied
in the FDDI kit.
The fiber optic cables in the communication rack
side will be connected (ST type) to a fiber optic
patch panel, for 12 node connections, located
inside the communication rack.
There should be a standard cable for connecting
the switching hub to the fiber optic panel. The
cable should be of the ST type with fiber optic
concentrator that can be connected to the fiber
panel and at the other side of the cable, the MIC
type connector should be connected to the FDDI
port in the switching hub.
