Question 3 - How Windows detects a Supra modem

Question

I am just installing this server and I am sure my Supra modem is setup OK, it is powered up and plugged in but I can’t get it detected by Windows. I can’t get it to answer.

Answer

Check your UPS. See if you can connect to it. Does Windows detect it at COM2? If you start PowerChute software does it see the device? If not, swap the serial cables between the modem and the UPS. If the cable swap fixes the problem for both machines you obviously had the cables mixed.

Even though they look exactly the same (black DB9-DB9 serial cable) the pinout on the APC UPS cable is different and the cable is useless for anything other than connecting to SmartUPS from a Windows platform.
