Product description

This site provides information about CIFS/SMB as it applies to Creo workflow products. CIFS/SMB is a protocol that can be used to provide UNIX to PC/Mac connectivity. Creo provides support for CIFS/SMB for Prinergy with SAMBA.

What is SAMBA?

SAMBA is an application that is available for many flavors of UNIX. SAMBA provides CIFS/SMB protocol support on a UNIX machine. What this means is that it allows a UNIX machine to “look” like a windows machine as far as network browsing and file sharing are concerned.

After the initial installation, all configuration can be done from a web browser on any machine that is able to ping the UNIX machine.

After SAMBA is installed and configured, any standard windows machine is able to view and access shares that are made available on that server. There is no need to install any software on the Windows machines.

SAMBA is not compatible with other solutions that provide SMB/CIFS support on UNIX (for example, PC Share). This means that SAMBA cannot be installed on a UNIX server that has an application installed that already provides SMB/CIFS support.
