How to reactivate Windows when prompted during login or when OS is locked out

Product

  Windows 2003, Windows XP

Error

Symptoms

Windows stops the login session and the Windows Product Activation error message appears.

Cause

The possible causes include:

  • During installation, the Kodak internal product key (magic key) was not entered in the Windows Setup wizard. Another product key, such as the key from the Windows label on the server box. was used.
  • The magic key was used, but Windows still displays an activation prompt on the server desktop. Windows runs for 30 days without activation, and then stops. You are no longer able to log into Windows.
  • You attempted to activate using the internet, but if failed, possibly because the magic key had already been used for this server. You must activate again.

Solution

Follow the instructions in the Windows 2003 or XP: Windows Activation procedure.
