Blue Screen Crash: Mac Services directory corrupted

Applies to

PlateMaster

Description

Windows NT crashes and displays a blue screen.

Solution

MAC shared directory corrupted

A MAC shared directory with heavy use (T:\PMaster1.2\Jobs) somehow becomes corrupt wrt MAC Services with time. We don't yet know what causes this to happen and have not been able to reproduce it at will. Whenever this MAC share is opened on the network (at login time) the server will Blue Screen.

Symptoms

The system dies immediately when going into NT when everything is normal.

  • System is OK when RAID is turned off.
  • System is OK when network cable disconnected.
  • System is OK when MAC Services disabled. THIS IS KEY!!!

Fix

  1. Boot with the RAID turned off. This is safer then haveing the NW cable disconnected since I am not sure if this worked every time.
  2. In Control Panel / Services set the MAC Services to Startup Disabled.
  3. Power up the Clariion and after sufficient time reboot the server.
  4. We will assume XXXX represents any MAC shared folder on T:. For each MAC shared folder do this;
    - Rename "XXXX" to "XXXXOld".
    - Create a new XXXX folder.
    - Move all the contents INSIDE XXXXOld to XXXX. - Delete XXXXOld.
  5. In Control Panel / Services set the MAC Services to Startup Automatic.
  6. Reboot the server. Hopefully this will fix the problem.
