Hotfix for jumping folders in Mac OS8/Windows NT

Applies to

Windows NT 4.0 on either Alpha or Intel platforms

Background

When a server running Windows NT 4.0 connects to a Mac running OS8, the file order is constantly changing in the Mac window and the files appear to be "jumping".

Solutions

The fix will be included on the NT 4.0 upgrade Kit CD (release date TBA).

Ideally, you should rename the files that are there for a backup copy.

Hotfix for jumping folders in Mac OS8/Windows NT (Intel)
The Intel version has a hotfix utility which will install the file.
  1. Run the Hotfix.exe file to setup the fixes.
  2. Restart your machine.

Hotfix for jumping folders in Mac OS8/Windows NT (Alpha)
The Alpha version has to be added manually. To add the Alpha version, stop services for Macintosh and replace the file.
  1. Go to the location of Sfmsrv.sys on your system drive (i.e. \WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS).
  2. Rename the existing file to have a .old extension.
  3. Copy the new file to that location.
  4. Restart your system.
