Problem |
After reinstalling the DLC protocol on the server and trying
to add a new port via the Add Printer Wizard and Hewlett-Packard Network Port is not
present. Removal and reinstallation of the DLC protocol does not solve this problem. Background Information: Site visit to setup 2 plotters on the server. Originally installed the DLC protocol as a means to attach the plotters and was unsuccesful in install. Attempted to attach to the plotters via Appletalk at which time removed the DLC protocol. Unsuccessful printing to the plotter(s) via Appletalk. Reinstalled the DLC protocol and tried to attach the plotters via the add port printer wizard. Problem was there was no Hewlett-Packard network port present. The DLC protocol was present on the adapter and therefore was installed. Stopping-restarting the spooler and disabling-enabling the DLC protocol did not help either. Removed the DLC protocol, reapplied SP3, and rebooted. Tried to install DLC from clean slate. Still no luck. Checked the Technet and resolution for this problem was available. Turns out when you add, remove, and add the DLC protocol on a serverwith 2 NICs the System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\Hewlett-Packard Network Port\Options:Adapter key is changed to reflect the secondary NIC. When you try to add port from the add printer wizard, no HP port is present until you adjust the registry key to reflect that the primary NIC has the HP monitor. |
Cause |
If a Secondary (1) Adapter is selected when no secondary adapter is present, on a system configured with one network interface card (NIC) and the data link control (DLC) protocol, the Hewlett-Packard Network Port disappears from the list of Available Print Monitors. Reinstalling DLC does not fix the problem. |
Solution |
Use the Registry Editor to change the adapter selected back
to Primary (0). 1) Open the Registry Editor. 2) Under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree, go to the following subkey:
3) Double-click 'Adapter:REG_DWORD:0x1'. 4) In the 'DWORD Editor' dialog box, change data from 1 to 0 and click 'OK'. 5) Exit Registry Editor. 6) Open the 'Services' dialog box. 7) Select 'Spooler Service', click 'Stop', and 'Start'. |
