RAS fails to bind properly in the Network Control Panel Applet

Applies to

Windows NT 4.0

Problem

The RAS fails to bind properly in the Network Control Panel Applet (NCPA).

Solutions

To fix the RAS, follow the steps below:
  1. Open Regedt32.
  2. Go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\
    NetworkCards\(x).
  3. Open the numbered keys and find the one that represents the RAS virtual NIC.
  4. Open the numbered RAS key and look in: \netrules\block.
  5. Select the 'net rules' key, then select 'Save Key' from the Registry menu to save a copy of this key for backup.
  6. Open the 'block' key by double clicking on the key data. Delete the key data and save the now blank key.
  7. Close Regedt32 and open the NCPA (control panel > Network). Open the services tab.
  8. Open the Remote Access Service and verify the protocol settings, including the IP address pool settings. Hit 'continue' to save.
  9. Click on the Bindings tab. Open up the server and workstation bindings to verify that there is now a binding listed for a RAS WAN wrapper under each protocol.

After re-booting your RAS should be fully functional.
