Network Interface counter unavailable in Performance Monitor

Tested     Not Tested

Applies to

  • Windows NT
  • Windows 2000

Component

Performance Monitor

Symptoms

When you click to add a counter to the chart, "Network Interface" is missing from the list of available performance objects containing counters.

Causes and Workarounds

Run the EXCTRLST utility from the NT/W2K Resource Kit. This is a GUI that allows you to inspect/modify the list of extensible performance counter DLLs on an NT/W2K computer (works over the network)

In the Extensible Performance Counters list box, scroll down to select TCP/IP, then ensure that the Performance Counters Enabled checkbox is checked.

Restart Performance Monitor. You should now see Network Interface in the list of available performance objects.
