Symptoms

The Windows winmgmt.exe process may stop responding and consume dramatically more memory and CPU resources when running on an InSite box with SP2 installed.

Solution

Microsoft has provided a hotfix that resolves this issue. This Windows hotfix is for SP2 systems only, and should be installed ONLY if you are experiencing the problem described above.

Download and run the hotfix file Q279225_W2K_SP3x86_en.EXE.

This problem will be permanently fixed in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
