Norton AntiVirus Causes BSOD During the Refine Process

Product

Norton AntiVirus (NAV)

Operating System

Windows 2000

Symptoms

Some customers have noticed a consistent BSOD during the Refine process after the installation of Norton Antivirus when Realtime Filesystem Scan was enabled. Specifically a single DCS file was causing the problem during Normalize and failed with Stop: 0x0000007f (0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) Unexpected_Kernal_Mode_Trap. The fault can be reproduced by setting the Refine Process Plan for Optimize / Grey Scale Images / Compression set to None.
Greyscale

    Bicubic Bicubic   Bicubic
Compression None Zip Zip None None Zip Jpeg
Color & Greyscale

Solution

Workaround: Until Adobe comes out with a patch we recommend customers set their Grey Scale Images Compression to ZIP. This is the default setting with Prinergy anyway and there should be no reason to deviate from it.
