Symptoms |
When a Prinergy Server with NAV installed Normalizes a large amount of small PostScript (PS) files (that is, several hundred or a thousand) you will notice a slowdown in the Normalize process. The Normalize process with NAV RealTime Filesystem Scan set to Enabled will take up to twice as long (absolute worst case) as the Normalize process with Realtime Scan set to disabled. The issue appears to be an Adobe issue in that the Distiller process will create thousands (that is, 5,300) of temp files for each PS file it converts. NAV will analyze each of the temp files that may only be a few bytes in size. Setting NAV to ignore PS or PDF, or even the Jobs or Temp directories reduces the overhead to 40% vs 100%, but this is not recommended as the solution because it could put the system at risk for viruses. |

Solution | At this time there is no solution or workaround. We have raised the issue with Adobe and they can reproduce it in their labs. It is unknown when a fix will be made available. | ||
