Unable to print to a Windows-shared printer from a Macintosh

Product

  Windows 2000 SP4

Error

Print jobs sent through a Windows spooler from a Mac are silently deleted. This problem may be intermittent, and may not show up at all. More details at: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;830764&Product=win2000

Symptoms

An error message that is similar to the following is logged to the application event log every time that you print a document from a Macintosh client computer: Type: Error Source: MacPrint Category: TrueImage Print Processor Event ID: 4000 Description: The TrueImage Interpreter initialization failed. (Document Name: DocumentName) Processing continued.

Cause

A bug in SP4 causes Mac print jobs to fail. This was not reproduceable in our lab, so unless the customer is experiencing this exact problem, do not install the hotfix.

Solution

Install this hotfix (also available on the Windows 2000 Resource CD's). W2K Hotfix
