1. The Purpose of This Docucment

The purpose of this document is to capture the high level strategy and the support objectives for CreoScitex SAN Data Director (CSDD), which consists of SAN appliances (second generation SAN technology) and is projected as the most powerful product enhancement to /Prinergy workflow systems.
This PSP correlates with the CSDD Product Plan.
The PSP relates mainly to the SDD implementation as shared centralized Fiber storage.
The SAN support implementation will be enhanced later on.

2. Product Overview

2.1 Generall

The CreoScitex SAN Data Director (CSDD) is an intelligent network infrastructure device to manage and transport vast quantities of digital Preprint data at very high speeds to and from multiple servers and DFE`s to shared storage resources. It is transparent to the user, operators on the CreoScitex DFE Front-end work with CSDD as they would with local storage, thus allowing quick implementation in the customers workflow.
The setup of virtual disk pools is done from administrative interfaces, local or remotely, giving full flexibility to the sites administrator.

• CSDD scales across multiple dimensions - including performance, connectivity, fault tolerance and capacity. It is capable of operating at multiples of Fibre Channel speed to deliver many simultaneous streams or discrete "chunks" of data.
  
• CSDD is a 28 port device; eight for front-end connectivity to servers and DFE`s at speeds of 100 megabytes per second per port/channel; and 10 or 20 ports for connectivity to storage devices at speeds of up to 100 megabytes per second. The CSDD is scalable to 73 terabytes of capacity, with high availability provided through redundant High Speed Traffic Directors (HSTD), power supplies and cooling sub-systems.
  
• The CreoScitex SAN Data Director functions:
  
  
  • Centralizes the administration of storage pools that can result in substantial savings in equipment and management costs.
    
  • Enables storage to be aggregated into a single logical resource pool from which virtual volumes can be created and administered.
    
  • Allows virtual Logical Units Numbers (vLUN) to be created within shared storage pools without regard to physical configuration constraints.
    
  • Supplies port virtualization to completely abstract applications from physical devices and physical paths.
    
  • Virtualizes storage devices into pools of resources that behave like ordinary disk volumes to the operating system.
    
  • Secures data traffic through an innovative WorldWide Name authentication mechanism that eliminates the need for LUN zoning and masking.
    
  • Continues to supply uninterrupted Quality of Service (QoS) data delivery even after experiencing sub-system failures.
    

2.2 Integration and Productization Phases

1. SDD with 20-60 FC disks can work as a point to point RAID with the added value of a SAN infrastructure. (It is not only SAN ready it is SAN built in!!). It is therefore a suitable replacement for an EV5000 (to be EOL in Q1/01), and it is cheaper than EV5000.

2. The second integration phase is SAN with various Brisques, where each station has a partition on the SAN. Removable JFS file system created are for mounting/unmounting on different stations.
3. The next phase is to create a SANergy AIX or NTFS file system on the SDD and install SANergy AIX clients on the Brisques. Here, development is needed (Hotfolder creation and triggers, which should be possible from CSPM)
4. The next phase is to install NT clients on Prinergy (CSPM), MacOS clients and start testing heterogeneous SAN. Here, development is required.
