Tape library reports that it can neither inventory a tape nor access the database

Symptoms

   When introducing new tapes to the Qualstar AIT tape library through the inject window, the library reports that it can neither inventory the tape nor access the database.

Solution

  
  1. Load appropriate drivers for the changer and the Sony drives for the library
  2. Reload the firmware for the Library (the same firmware that is supposedly loaded on the library). Follow the steps in section 7.2.1 Validating The QualStar Changer Firmware Version (Qualstar libraries only) of AIT Tape Library Configuration Procedure.
    The main steps are summarized as follows:
    1. Verify the Library Executive Board and Firmware Revision
    2. Copy the Firmware and Upgrade Utility software from the W2K Resource CD to the system
    3. Verify the ASPI Installation ( this did not register correctly on the library we tested)
    4. Update the ASPI installation (now registered correctly)
    5. Verify the changer SCSI bus ID
    6. Upload the new firmware code
  3. Reboot the Library
  4. Force an Inventory of the Library with no tapes
  5. Inject Tapes through the inject window. The library should now inventory them successfully.
