Mounting a Brisque Volume on the PS/2

The Network File System (NFS) is a distributed file system that allows the UNIX host (or other NFS clients) to access files, directories and peripherals of another remote station that supports an NFS Brisque as if they were local.

Launching MountPro

This procedure describes how to use MountPro to mount a volume of another remote station (Brisque or Ripro Server) so that you can access the files through the local file manager.

To launch MountPro:

  1. From the Launch Pad, click the arrow above the Files icon.
    The File Manager subpanel appears.

  2. Double-click the MountPro icon.
The Devices & Remote Stations window appears, as shown in the next section.

Mounting a Remote Station

You can mount NFS data volumes (i.e., regular data volumes) from any Brisque or Ripro Server on the network.

If the network has a DNS server, there is no need to define the stations as Host as a prerequisite to mounting a remote station. If you get the `host unknown' message and you are sure that you have typed the name correctly, then go into SMIT and define the remote Brisque as Host.

To mount a remote station:

  1. Launch MountPro as described in Launching MountPro. The Devices & Remote Stations window appears.
  2. Click the menu button in the upper left corner of this window and select Remote Station from the popup menu (if it's not already selected).
A list of mounted volumes appears.

  3. Click Mount. The Mount window appears.

  4. In the Remote Station field, type the name of the remote station that you want to mount and press Enter.

The Volume and Permission menu buttons become active, and the Volume button automatically displays all of the existing dataVolumes on the selected remote station.

  1. Select the volume that you want to mount from the Volume list.
  2. Select one of the following options from the Permission list:
Read Only The files from the mounted volume can be read from the local Brisque or copied to the local Brisque.

When you select Read Only, you can preview files from the mounted volume, but you cannot perform any other operation (i.e., RIP, etc.) on these files unless you copy them from the mounted dataVolume to a dataVolume on the local Brisque.

Read/Write The files from the mounted volume can be read from and written to.

When you mount a volume with Read/Write capabilities, you can perform all operations on the files contained in the volume, and you also can write to the mounted volume.

If you work regularly with the selected volume and you want it to be automatically mounted every time you boot the Brisque, select the Automatic Mount on System Startup option.
  1. Click OK. The Devices & Remote Stations window appears, displaying the selected volume in the list.
You can now access the files and folders of the mounted volume from the File Manager and from Browsers on the local Brisque.

To unmount a remote data volume:

  1. Launch MountPro as described in Launching MountPro. The Device & Remote Stations window appears (see "Device & Remote Stations").
  2. Click the menu button in the upper left corner of the window and select Remote Station from the popup menu.
  3. From the Volume list, select the volume that you want to unmount.
  4. Click Dismount. The selected volume no longer appears in the list, and its files and folders no longer appear in the File Manager.

NFS Setup Using SMIT

This procedure describes the NFS setup using SMIT to mount volumes of remote users such as other UNIX, Windows NT or Novell.

To mount a Brisque or Ripro Server volume, refer to Mounting a Remote Station.

To set up NFS using SMIT:

  1. Activate the SMIT utility by typing smit mknfsmnt and pressing Enter.
The Add a File System for Mounting window appears.
  2. Select the PATHNAME of mount point field and type the mount point in the entry field (in this example /dataVolumes/brisque).
  3. Select the PATHNAME of remote directory field and type the pathname of the remote directory (in this example /dataVolumes/brisque).
  4. Select the HOST where remote directory resides field and type in the station name (in this example, brisque).
  5. Select the MOUNT now, add... field and use the TAB key to toggle to both.
  6. Select the /etc/filesystems entry... field and use the TAB key to toggle to yes.
  7. Select the MODE for this NFS file system field and use the TAB key to toggle to read-only.
  8. Select the ATTEMPT mount in... field and use the TAB key to toggle to background, if necessary.
  9. Scroll down with the directional arrows to select the Mount file system soft or hard field and use the TAB key to toggle to soft.
  10. After the changes have been made, press Enter.
  11. When the Are You Sure? popup window appears, press Enter.
  12. Repeat this procedure for each file system that needs to be mounted.
  13. Press [F10] to exit SMIT.

Performing a Reciprocal Mount

When you are mounting a volume, you must confirm that the volume has been exported by its host station. If the volume has been exported, other stations on the network have permission to mount the volume and to define read only and read/write permissions.

Mounting a Brisque Volume on the PS/2

To mount a Brisque volume on the PS/2:

  1. Start the Sciutil application.
  2. Select 3 -Communication Configuration.
  3. Select 3 -TCP/IP NFS.
  4. Select 1 - Local Host and confirm that the Local Host is properly configured.
  5. Select 2 - Network Configuration. Make sure that the first two segments of the network are configured properly (e.g., 149.115).
  6. Select 3 - Hosts Configuration.
  7. Toggle the top field with the <space bar> to display the Network Configuration. Configure each host with its proper IP address.
  8. Select 4 - NFS Definition.
  9. Select the Brisque that you wish to define a NFS volume for and press Enter.
  10. In the Logical Name field, type a device name that you will be able to identify as the Brisque Volume on the PS/2.
  11. In the Mount Level field, select whether the Brisque volume is mounted as a Page (~PG) or as a File (~FL).

If you choose Page, the folder on the Brisque appears as a Job on the PS/2, and you can create Pages in which to copy or RIP into. You must have the jobs folder as part of your path on the Brisque (e.g., /dataVolumes/brisque1.1.0/jobs)

  12. If you choose File, you will not be able to create pages on the mount, and you will only be able to RIP or copy files to this folder.

  13. In the APP Mount field, you can mount the Brisque volume on restart. Use the <space bar> to toggle between yes and no.
  14. In the Remote Path field, enter the path as it appears on the Brisque (e.g. /dataVolumes/brisque1.1.0).
