Adding Version names to the plate in Brisque 4.0 versioning

Product

Brisque 4.0

Platform

  • E30—Victory
  • 43P-140—Tiger 1
  • 43P-150—Tiger 2
  • F50—Wildcat (2 and 4 CPUs)
  • 44P-170—Hammerhead
  • 6F1—Condor (2, 4, and 6 CPUs)

Operating system

IBM AIX 4.3.3

Background

In Brisque 4.0, problems have occurred when adding the version name to the plate, when dentifying the different version languages.

The following solution:

  • Helps to identify the different languages
  • Is easy to use (and can be reused)
  • Can be placed anywhere in the Preps™ template

This is a temporary solution. A final solution will be implemented in a future Brisque version.

Requirements

Download the versioning.eps (202KB) file.

If opening the versioning.eps file, in Adobe Illustrator, note that it contains just the Versions names, one on top of the other.

Each version name is defined as a spot color with a unique name—for example, ver%english%Black.

ver%english is the version name. %Black is the separation this version should be exposed with. See the image below.

When using this procedure you must ensure that:

  • The versions names in the versioning.eps file are exactly the same version names as used in the versioning job.
  • The colors of the versions in the versioning.eps file are the same as the colors in the versioning job.

If the number and names of versions change from one versioning job to another, edit the versioning.eps file in Adobe Illustrator™.

Procedure

  1. Download the versioning.eps (202KB) file.
  2. Open the versioning.eps file, in Adobe Illustrator. Note that it contains just the versions names, one on top of the other.
  3. Edit the versioning.eps as required.
  4. RIP the versioning.eps file to create a versioningEPS.job
  5. RIP your Base.ps and Version.ps files to create a Base.job and Version.job(s).
  6. In the Versioning dialog box, merge the Version.job(s) with the Base.job(s) to create a final Versioning.job.
  7. In Preps, create your imposition .icf file.
  8. Add the single page in the versioningEPS.job and all the pages in the final versioning job to the imposition layout.

Note: Leave the versioningEPS.job on the Brisque volume, together with the final versioning job.

  9. Translate the icf file in Brisque.
  10. Preview the imposition job.
  11. Output the job.

Important: Version names in the versioning.eps file that are not used in the versioning job are also exposed. For each additional version name, a blank plate is exposed with only the version name on it.
