  • F50 - Wildcat (2 and 4 CPUs)
  • 44P-170 - Hammerhead
  • 6F1 - Condor (2,4 and 6 CPUs)

Operating system

IBM AIX 4.2.1 or IBM AIX 4.3.3

Error

“Abnormal Termination of PS RIP”
Or:
“HighRes not found”

Symptoms

Sometimes, when RIPing PDFs with embedded OPI comments pointing to high resolution images, the PDF files fail at the RIP and the above error messages display.

Cause

The reason is that some applications write OPI comments inside postscript files for embedded high resolution images.

If you select the Preserve OPI Comments option in Distiller or Normalizer, the comments stay in the PDF file, and the RIP tries to locate the high resolution images.

Solution

Clear the OPI check box in the HighRes Handling dialog box, opened from the RIP application window.
