When printing images from QuarkXPress to Brisque 3.0.38 with Timna server, images may be missed

Product

Timna Server and Brisque 3.0.38 Update CD2

Platform

  • E30 - Victory

  • 43P-140 - Tiger1
  • 43P-150 - Tiger2
  • F50 - Wildcat (2 and 4 CPUs)

Operating system

  IBM AIX 4.2.1

Error

This problem occurs without any QuarkXPress or PostScript error messages.

Symptoms

When printing from QuarkXPress to Brisque, sometimes, an image is missed on a plate.

Cause

When starting to print, QuarkXPress verifies all images and starts sending data to a printer or spooler (the LaserWriter status dialog box shows the progress bar). If an image is in use by another application, after the printer status is shown on the monitor, QuarkXPress skips single images without sending any image data from the original file, or OPI comments.

This problem can happen to customers with and without OPI.

An image can be busy for various reasons.

For example:

  • OPI server created a new layout
  • Image is being edited by someone
  • Virus software (which checks the image from any other station in the net)
  • AppleScript opened the image (exclusive)
  • Image is processed by another application
  • Other system Inits/xtensions are opening an image (for example, file preview).

Solution

This problem has been forwarded to QuarkXPress.
